Sulphur Springs City Cemetery is one of the oldest historic sites in Hopkins County, with burials dating back to at least 1849 and earlier unmarked graves believed to reach into the 1830s, predating the establishment of the town itself. Chosen by early settlers for its peaceful hillside setting and shaded landscape, the cemetery became the final resting place for many of the area’s pioneer families and community leaders. Over time, it has grown into a lasting record of local heritage, reflecting generations of Sulphur Springs residents. Still in use today and recognized as an Historic Texas Cemetery, it remains both a place of remembrance and a significant link to the region’s early history.
